"deep down & bongly' first happened at Deep Blue, London Bridge on Friday the 31st October 2003...

Here's the text of the review published in Bubble jam magazine. We'd like to thank Le Mufti for the constructive criticism, which will help to make the next one even better.

Deep Down and Bongly @ Deep Blue (seOne club) 31 October

Twice at seOne club in the same month? Now, for me, that is really unusual - but then that was Raindance! So when the binglybongly crew decided to venture into all-nighter territory, I rushed there, by magic carpet; and went to check it out for all you undecided muppets, wandering lost, in the asphalt jungle, looking for a party to shake your booty to, or just in wonderland, without a magic wand or flyer to shake at anybody. And does anybody really care anyway?

Deep down and Bongly was in three rooms usually used by seOne for chill-out purposes. It has a capacity of 400, so its not a heaving over-crowded-sweaty affair that's on offer, but an alternative to what we usually expect from eight hours of mongitude - it has a more relaxed mood, which the bongly crew has brought with it from Spitz, where they have been entertaining a happy Sunday chill for a quite a while now.

A fantastic décor and lighting greeted us, tantalising our spirits and stimulating them into action - I am lost for words truly, as the feeling is overwhelming in its upliftingness. An immediate smile rushes to park itself onto your face as you wander through these rooms - at the back is a healing space draped with airy white fabrics cascading down from the vaulted brickness above and some lovely people ready to Reiki/reflexology/massage you into the fourth dimension.

The "Deep Down room" was described as "Harder House" and was well banging in its first couple of hours, holding new arrivals there. Hmm - that might also have had something to do with the bar, which was located there, but the people danced and they seemed content and God looked upon them and was pleased! Whoops, sorry to take you down dem biblical paths. The "Bongly room" was described by the Bingly crew as: "Uplifting eclectic". It lived up to its eclectic tag, of which DJ Fluff was one of the only high points.

Yet it failed to uplift the punters for much jiggy, pump and grind, because it had no consistency of style to speak of and tended to sound disjointed and without structure, failing to gel into a working elixir of merriment. At some points in the night, both rooms were echoing each other's sounds and there was no marked contrast in styles between them... So no choice was offered, if you weren't hooked on eclectic or otherwise - there was only one place to run and that was some squat party in the area - but that's all rumour - I blame the class As myself!

Pete Ardron, known for Glow and the parachute ambience at Whirly amongst other things, re-established order at the end of the night with his worldly mix of uplifting rhythms as well as Deep John, who after a wobbly start with howling feedback, got us all dancing with a great mix of interesting House and Soul with a hint of Old Skool.

Now the music really needs to be improved a tad, as it had its ups and downs during the night - but apart from that, it has that sort of cool ambience and relaxed mix of friendly punters that may well be challenging the more established fluffy scenes, ultimately asking questions of them one day - For these are early days yet; and there is much fine-tuning still to be done.

An interesting alternative is mushrooming in the London Bridge area - we can only wait with baited breath - will keep you posted.
